Belle Meade is a beautiful and bucolic city located to the west of the Green Hills neighborhood in southwest Nashville. The city shares its name with the grand Belle Meade Plantation—built in 1807, this Greek Revival antebellum mansion is one of many gorgeous properties in Belle Meade. Most of the city’s area belonged to the plantation until the early 20th century.

Belle Meade Boulevard is lined with spectacular homes, including historic mansions and contemporary estates sitting on sprawling manicured lots. The boulevard leads to the expansive green space of the Warner Parks. Other Belle Meade landmarks include the 1920s Cheekwood Estate and the prestigious Belle Meade Country Club, which features a Donald Ross golf course.

Belle Meade’s eastern boundary is roughly defined by the Harding Pike. Most commercial development is concentrated on the area of the Harding Pike to the south of the Belle Meade Plantation. Sperry’s is a refined steakhouse with the atmosphere of an Old English tavern. Their menu includes delicious prime steaks, chops, house specialty prime rib, and mouthwatering seafood. Surf ‘n’ turf plates at Sperry’s include six-ounce bacon-wrapped beef filets served with jumbo lump crab cake, king crab, lobster tail, or grilled shrimp. 360 Bistro is a fine dining destination pairing elegant entrées with one of the Nashville area’s most extensive wine lists. Other dining choices along the Harding Pike include classic American breakfast and lunch fare at Le Peep, freshly-made Mediterranean dishes at Zoës Kitchen, and award-winning sports grill Sam’s Place. The Belle Meade Shoppes features more than 25 vendors selling elegant interior furnishings and antiques. Belle Meade is just a few minutes’ drive from The Mall at Green Hills, an upscale shopping center with more than 100 businesses anchored by Dillard’s, Macy’s, and Nordstrom department stores.

Belle Meade’s namesake Belle Meade Plantation once covered the entire area on which the city was built. The plantation now features 30 acres of grounds surrounding a grand Greek Revival mansion built in the early 1800s. Guided tours are available of the mansion and the numerous outbuildings surrounding it. Belle Meade Winery was founded in 2009 to help fund the mansion’s upkeep. Guests can sample signature Southern-style blackberry and muscadine wines alongside varietals inspired by European viticulture. A short distance south of the Belle Meade Plantation, Cheekwood Estate and Gardens is another landmark historic residence surrounded by 55 acres of beautifully-landscaped botanical gardens. The 1920s Georgian Revival mansion on the grounds of the Cheekwood Estate houses an art museum containing works from many celebrated American artists. The Warner Parks cover an area of more than 3,100 acres directly south of the Cheekwood Estate. This sprawling green space is one of the largest municipal parks in Tennessee. Trails for hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding run through the Warner Parks’ diverse landscape of fields. Amenities include a dog park, equestrian and nature centers, golf courses, and sports fields.
